The Everyday Plate is the step after a suction plate. Once a child is past launching dinner off the tray and starting to want to carry their own plate to the table, a plate fixed down becomes the thing they're working against rather than the thing helping them.
At 23cm it's closer to an adult side plate than a baby one, with room for something to eat, something green and something on the side without anything overlapping — which matters if yours objects to foods touching.
The silicone outer is there for grip rather than suction. It holds the plate steadier while they're spearing something, and takes the noise and the impact out of it being put down with enthusiasm.
A note on stainless steel: light scratches from cutlery are normal over time, the way they are with any metal. It's wear rather than damage, and it doesn't affect how the plate performs.
